old + new

landmark federation house was extended to incorporate new kitchen and study (in existing structure) with new modern wing to form family room and informal living area.

the old section restored period mouldings and high ceilings while the new wing is of polished concrete floor with aluminium window frames and galvanized steel sunscreens.

 
 
 

2 apartments

two apartments on a small triangular site, the building is designed and articulated both horizontally and vertically to provide separate entries and garages for ground floor grandmothers flat with courtyards, first floor family apartment with 3 br and west facing deck. constructed of rendered block work with glass balustrades and drop concrete panels and round eves cutout to provide sunlight for the top deck.

 
 
 

2 townhouses

juxtaposed between city and sea on north south axis. these two terrace houses express federation proportions of streetscape and present a low rise image from the sea. designed for seaviews the upper level is virtually a large 1 br flat with living-dining areas on a split level and open kitchen. a main br suite looks north to the city lights.

 
 
 

re-interpretation

a re-interpretation of the townhouse architype creates communal space with small courtyard gardens. comprising ground floor open plan living area opening to north courtyard with study/3rd br adjacent to entry. open stair leads to 2 brms on 1st floor with 2 bathrooms. the building is articulated by using coloured blade walls and sloping roofs floating above a corrugated steel dados. upper walls are rendered over foam and ground floor walls are face brick.

 
 
 

historic house conservation

this iconic balcony residence was extensively rebuild using recycled materials and modern servics preserving the original structure. a modern wing was extended to form informal living room with glass roof panels and folding doors onto courtyard garden.

 
 
 

floats above

beach house with commanding views floats above the rural landscape to provide an extended family summer retreat. large north patios and generous eves provide accommodation with 5 br on 2 levels. constructed of steel frame and glass with infill timber and cement walls, the strong horizontal lines and large decks express shelter and serenity.

a low maintenance house with large living ares, secluded bedrooms and efficient central kitchen. DesconHouse features a low cost kitchen-bathroom core. by locating this area in the centre of the house we have the flexibility to provide a large selection of living and bedroom arrangement without sacrificing architectural qualities. the original home received a citation from the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
